Argentina's Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner was recovering well Friday after undergoing hysterectomy surgery Thursday, it was reported.
The former head of state was expected to stay at least two more days hospitalized at Buenos Aires' Otamendi Sanatorium before being discharged.
Dr Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is on the first postoperative day and continues with a good clinical evolution, read a medical report signed by Otamendi's medical director, Doctor Marisa Lanfranconi. Post-surgical routine controls are maintained, the report went on.
The procedure was a laparoscopic extended hysterectomy, after which a macroscopic evaluation was carried out, the result of which showed that the uterine polyp found presents benign characteristics. although the definitive result of the histopathological examination will be issued next week.
Vice President Fernández arrived at the clinic alongside her younger sister Giselle, who is a medical doctor. The operation began on schedule and lasted around two hours.
CFK is expected to fully resume her duties in three weeks.
