By Joseph Stiglitz – Unlike the United States, which could spend one-quarter of its GDP protecting its economy from the COVID-19 fallout, Argentina entered the pandemic with the deck stacked against it. Yet, thanks to the current government’s policies to strengthen the real economy, the country has been enjoying a remarkable recovery. Read full article

One of those very rare articles on PenguinPress that ain't completely biased against all things Argie...!
- Anyhow..., hereby the top three treasonable tricks I hope our current Argie administration doesn't recycle from abroad to try to brainwash our fragile pretty minds with...:
1) Painting our city busses as follows...:
We send the IMF $350 million a week
Lets fund our SNS instead
2) Declaring a Freedom Day in the middle of this freaking pandemic...
3) Invite and assist to a BYOB gathering in the midst of the freaking pandemic mentioned above...
Capisce...?

Jan 11th, 2022 - 04:29 pm - Link - Report abuse -1I’m perplexed personally about your country’s financial plight.
Outsiders would trend to sympathize with the bankers — but most Argentines fear unfair treatment.
As you know, one of my friends resides in San Juan, and his opinion is that Argentina will not back down.
The International Monetary Fund is playing a game to “chicken” with an Argentine administration willing to risk it all — because it would be a public relations disaster if the IMF does not offer debt forgiveness!
(On another subject — it’s good to see some of your countrymen now enjoying the sea!)

Jan 11th, 2022 - 06:46 pm - Link - Report abuse -1With all due respect — your reaction is so typical of your countrymen.
No one is invading Argentina — although I sincerely applaud your altruism in sharing your diminished privileges.
Unfortunately, my experience with all LATAM citizens sadly do not promote fiscal solidarity…
….the question is if the frivolous debtor’s owed is not actually the actual lender’s malevolence instead.
Anyway, the weather here is pleasant and despite the horrendous worldwide inflation increases — our net revenue has actually outpaced the additional expenses. (Notably nearly double the increase of sea-freight!)
We’re not convinced that the upcoming table grapes market will be as fortunate — as food inflation have skyrocketed!

Jan 11th, 2022 - 08:19 pm - Link - Report abuse -1We can easily accept Boric socialism for four years…
…hopefully the pendulum will swing back to the right — but we can survive…
The skyrocketing fuel costs alone are killing us — but food inflation is becoming a major issue.
I’m curious how Madame and the Lycée Français Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry are somehow related.
To quote Gabriela Mistral’s — Canción de la Muerte (Song of Death 1914)

Gabriel Boric is a relatively a mild political situation for us — as I doubt he’ll become very radical.
Currently I’m watching the USD — CLP currency exchanges which have remained relatively stable.
In the coming weeks — I’ll progressively increase daily visits to the farm — as we’ll began the harvest of our grapes in late February. So far — the anticipated returns will not be able to match increased food prices.

Remember that Shitslitz is in the pay of the Argentine government and makes a lot of money saying misleading things about them.
Jan 11th, 2022 - 10:06 pm - Link - Report abuse -1At last count Argentina's new-cases-per-100000-per-day was running nearly 14 times as many as Chile -- with Argentina being the worst of any Latin American country.
Let's review Argentina's pandemic control performance.
As of 9 January
Ecuador new daily COVID cases per 100000 population ==> 101
Chile new daily COVID cases per 100000 population ==> 142
Peru new daily COVID cases per 100000 population ==> 239
Colombia new daily COVID cases per 100000 population ==> 416
Argentina new daily COVID cases per 100000 population ==> 1929

Boric is taking a slow approach — with our Central Bank being completely independent.
I cannot imagine how Argentine importers are coping with the economy.
Personally statistics in Latin America are pointless.

Jan 12th, 2022 - 12:10 am - Link - Report abuse -1We see that Comrade Boric has shown his criminal side by planning to empty the jails of those who were responsible for the looting, arson, and insurrection of Red October, which ended up killing dozens and causing over 5 billion dollars' worth of losses and damage, and brought about the sort of capital flight not seen in Chile since 1970. This is what you have to look forward to.

Jan 12th, 2022 - 09:20 am - Link - Report abuse 0An illegal seizure of our family property... you say...
- As I never really checked the actual procedure of the seizure of your family properties..., I can't say if it factually was illegal or legal...
- What i can certainly can say is that..., since the sixties..., it surely was a firm legal basis for the much needed Shilean Agrarian Reform...

Jan 12th, 2022 - 01:01 pm - Link - Report abuse -1In regards to “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few” — things eventually worked out for most of us…
In retrospect — the land reform of my country caused a very positive outcome.
When I graduated from the Grange School — I accepted a generous admission into our academy — while my uncle and father converted the barren hillsides into vineyards. (All financed by Chile.)
Today, my country is making strong social progress and I do think everyone has benefitted.
