Argentine FM holds meeting with Chinese envoy to soothe ties

Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino met Friday with Chinese Ambassador Wang Wei. During the encounter, both diplomats agreed on the importance of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed between the two countries ten years ago, and reaffirmed the principle of one China in reference to Taiwan's separatism. However, there was no mention of the currency swap worth US$ 6.5 billion Argentina was expecting to receive.

Argentina to issue larger-denomination banknotes

Argentina's Central Bank (BCRA) announced this week that would start printing AR$10,000 and AR$20,000 bills (a little under US$ 10 and 20 respectively) to meet the demand for higher-denomination banknotes, it was reported in Buenos Aires. “The issuance of these denominations will facilitate transactions among users,” the BCRA argued in a statement.

Drug trafficking scandal: How cocaine made it from Uruguay to Belgium undetected?

A shipment of 22,320 units of Portezuelo brand budines and alfajores (La Plata river sweets), along with 1,122 bottles of vermouth, originating from Uruguay and bound for Belgium, was found to contain 2.16 tons of cocaine.
