Montevideo launches mobile flu vaccination

The sanitary campaign gained momentum in the last few weeks

Health teams from Montevideo's City Council will start canvassing the Uruguayan capital from Monday through Friday with mobile vaccination units to foster immunization against influenza and also Covid-19. The initiative comes at a time of high circulation of respiratory viruses, it was explained.

The authorities highlighted the importance of vaccination against influenza in children between six months and five years old, pregnant women, postpartum women up to six months postpartum, people over 65 years old, adolescent children, adults with comorbidities, patients with chronic diseases or immunosuppressed, people with Down syndrome and healthcare workers. In addition to shots against the flu and the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the cruising units will be supplied with other vaccines from the regular schedule to help people catch up with their schemes.

According to the Uruguayan government, more than 300,000 people have already been vaccinated against the flu, with the national Health Ministry having set a goal of at least 500,000 people. The latest bulletin dated June 2 showed 377,414 people had been vaccinated against the flu after the sanitary campaign gained momentum in the last few weeks.

However, vaccination among children stood at 8.29%, 14% among pregnant women, and almost 28% among healthcare practitioners.
