Starlink now says it will ban X in Brazil

Satellite internet service provider (ISP) Starlink backtracked on its initial decision and acquiesced to banning social media platform X nationwide as ordered by Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre De Moraes and supported by fellow magistrates Luis Roberto Fux, Cármen Lúcia, Cristiano Zanin and Flávio Dino. Both X and SpaceX (Starlink's parent company) are owned by South African-born tycoon Elon Musk.

Uruguay inaugurates fishing port terminal

Uruguayan authorities inaugurated a new fishing port in Capurro on Tuesday after a US$ 110 million investment, an “important milestone” that will house the activity in Montevideo, President Luis Lacalle Pou explained. The head of state also pointed out that “it has been many years since a public port was built here.”

International community concerned about arrest warrant against González Urrutia

Multiple voices from the international community expressed their concern Tuesday after Venezuela's Judiciary issued an arrest warrant against opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia, whom many regard as the true winner of the July 28 presidential elections at which the incumbent Nicolás Maduro claims to have prevailed but without submitting any evidence.

New Zealand to triple tax for foreign tourists, from £16.52 to £47.20

New Zealand will triple its tax for foreign tourists, beginning October first. The cost of the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy will jump to NZ$100 (£47.20) from NZ$35 (£16.52).

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro brought forward Christmas to Oct. 1 for the third time in his administration, he announced Tuesday in his TV show “Con Maduro+” broadcasted on YouTube.

Argentine man with monkeypox dies in Mexico

Santiago Molina, a 28-year-old man who contracted monkeypox and was hospitalized in Mexico, has died or a cardiac arrest, it was reported Tuesday. The patient passed away Sunday but the case only went public Tuesday.

Falklands/Brize Norton airbridge flights fully booked; recommendations for challenging September

The Falkland Islands Government with the UK Ministry of Defense is working on bookings and waiting lists for the airbridge, during the month of September and announced the following release, ”Our community will be aware of the current strain on Airbridge flights where all flights are fully booked, and nearly every flight waitlisted. The cancelled and returned flights in late August has added additional pressure on the availability of Airbridge seats.
