    Three icebergs sighted off Ushuaia

    These icebergs usually melt down as they “enter warmer waters,” a PNA Officer explained

    Argentina's Coast Guard (Prefectura Naval Argentina - PNA) alerted all sailing ships this week of three icebergs near Ushuaia and advised them to avoid all unnecessary approaching these ice floes, of which only 10% is visible on the surface. The first detection was reported last Saturday by the Argentine-flagged fishing vessel Echizen Maru and the latest spotting came through on Monday at the Beagle Channel exit into the open sea.

    Argentina's Security Minister Patricia Bullrich announced Tuesday that “strong sanctions” would be applied to anyone releasing any information regarding the disappearance of 5-year-old Loan Danilo Peña, a child in the province of Corrientes who went missing when allegedly searching for oranges in a local field and is now believed to have been abducted for human trafficking. The case splashed the Libertarian administration of President Javier Milei after a person of that political allegiance was arrested.

    Venezuelan Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez said the opposition was plotting to demolish the Angostura Bridge, over the Orinoco River, linking the States of Bolívar and Anzoátegui, and other acts of sabotage since “they do not want any elections because they already know they have been defeated.” She added: ”We have detected and unveiled a serious plan to demolish (...) the first bridge over the Orinoco River, the Angostura Bridge.” The Venezuelan regime also accused the opposition of wanting to carry out a coup d'état.

    Falklands Museum Sea Harrier and Lynx Helicopter presented in UK media

    Forces.net, a UK armed forces platform has published that a Royal Navy Sea Harrier and a Lynx helicopter – a combat veteran of the Falklands War – have completed their 8,000-mile journey to the Falkland Islands. The Sea Harrier ZH801 and Lynx XZ725 were taken by road on the final leg of their trip to Stanley where they will become main exhibits in the city's museum.

    A new and worrying way that large ice sheets can melt has been characterized by scientists for the first time. The research focuses on how relatively warm seawater can lap at the underside of ground-based ice, which can accelerate the movement of the ice into the ocean.

    UNESCO did not recommend placing the reef on its endangered heritage list, but did ask Australia to update protection efforts by early next year.
