Trump’s envoy delivers stern warning to Maduro in Caracas as US flag displayed in Miraflores

Richard Grenell, the special envoy appointed by U.S. President Donald Trump, met with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro at the Presidential Miraflores Palace in Caracas on Friday. During the meeting, Grenell conveyed a non-negotiable message from White House official Mauricio Claver-Carone: Maduro must “receive back the Venezuelan criminals that have been sent to the United States.”

Brazilian Police keep looking for 32-year-old Argentine national Federico Bruni who went missing as he went on a tour in the São Bonifácio jungle. Bruni's pick-up truck and his dog have already been found.

US special envoy lands in Caracas

US career diplomat Richard Grenell landed Friday in Caracas presumably to participate in the return of a group of Venezuelan deportees in exchange for US nationals detained by the Bolivarian regime in the South American country. However, neither government has made any agenda public so the full scope of Washington's former Ambassador to Germany is mostly media speculation.

Bolsonaro ready to be jailed at any time

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro told Bloomberg that he was mentally prepared to be incarcerated any time soon, and was somehow expecting Federal Police (PF) officers to pick him up. “I sleep well, but I'm already prepared to hear the doorbell ring at 6 am,” announcing it is the PF. Bolsonaro has already been indicted in the alleged coup plot, the alleged vaccination card fraud, and the Saudi jewels case. In another interview last week, Bolsonaro claimed that the charges did not matter.

Argentine national among the dead in Potomac River air crash

US authorities announced Thursday that there were no survivors in the mid-air collision between an American Eagle CRJ-700 jetliner and an Army helicopter near Washington DC's Ronald Reagan / National Airport. Among the deceased was an Argentine national and his Chilean son. The airplane was carrying 60 passengers plus a crew of 4 while 3 servicemen were aboard the helicopter.

Autopart makers Yazaki leaving Uruguay

Japanese autopart makers Yazaki announced the closure of its two plants in Uruguay citing rising costs, leaving thousands jobless, it was reported in Montevideo. Some 1,200 workers have been affected by the measure. The plants in Las Piedras and Colonia, which had been operating since 2007, represented 300 and 900 jobs respectively. Yazaki's presence in the region will be shifting to Argentina and Paraguay.

Dengue epidemic reported in Ecuador

Ecuador's Health Ministry confirmed Thursday that the South American country was going through a dengue epidemic. Surveillance, Prevention, and Epidemiological Control Undersecretary Teresa Aumala made the announcement during a virtual press conference after 2 deaths and over 4,500 cases were recorded.

Swiss minister tells Peña her country interested in dealing with Mercosur

Switzerland's Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Helen Budlinger told Paraguayan President Santiago Peña that her country was interested in expanding businesses with Asunción and with all of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur). She made those remarks Thursday as she welcomed Peña to the non-European Union nation which thus covets a separate Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar Thursday told Venezuelan opposition leaders Edmundo González Urrutia and María Corina Machado that the Middle East country had its South American counterpart's freedom in mind: “Venezuela shall be free,” Sa'ar insisted during a telephone conversation.
