    President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will be sending Brazil's Ambassador in Caracas to Nicolás Maduro's Jan. 10 inauguration of another six-year term in office. Once regarded as close allies and friends, Maduro and Lula do not see eye to eye after the controversial July 28 elections where the Chavista leader was declared the winner despite fraud allegations by Edmundo González Urrutia's Unitarian Democratic Platform (PUD).

    Boric South Pole bound after weather problems ruled out

    Boric's journey is supported by the British Antarctic Survey and the UK's Antarctic Program, among other international partners

    Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font's trip to the South Pole was confirmed Thursday by the La Moneda Palace in Santiago after its feasibility had been questioned due to poor weather. The journey between Jan. 2 and 4, will include other officials as well as a scientific team to tour the Union Glacier Joint Scientific Polar Station and the Amundsen-Scott Base.

    Covid-19 resurfaces abruptly in Bolivian Dept. of Santa Cruz

    Last week 14 Covid-related deaths were reported in Chile

    Health authorities in the Bolivian Department of Santa Cruz Thursday said that an “abrupt” increase in Covid-19 cases had been detected, due to which they encouraged residents to update their vaccination schemes and adopt all biosecurity protocols. A total of 290 infections were reported last week, 11 of which required hospitalization, including three under ventilation in intensive care units, and one death on Dec. 28. All 11 are unvaccinated patients, it was also explained.

    US President Joseph Biden said in a broadcast message late Wednesday that federal law enforcement officers would handle both the attack that left at least 15 dead in New Orleans and the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump Tower in Las Vegas to find out whether both incidents are linked. He also warned against drawing premature conclusions.

    Truck explosion leaves one dead in front of Las Vegas Trump Tower

    The Tesla Cybertruck and the Ford F-150 pickup truck involved in the New Orleans incident were both rentals from the same agency

    One person was killed and seven others were injured Wednesday after a Tesla electric vehicle known as a Cybertruck model filled with fireworks exploded at about 8:40 am local time in front of a Trump Tower building in Las Vegas, Nevada. One fatal victim and “seven minor injuries” were corroborated by a Clark County Fire Department spokesman. The person killed was inside the Tesla vehicle, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill told reporters. There was smoke coming from the vehicle before a “large explosion,” he added.

    At least 15 killed in suspected terrorist attack in New Orleans

    “We are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism,” the FBI said in a statement

    At least 15 people were killed Wednesday in a mass ramming and shooting during New Year's celebrations in New Orleans in the US State of Lousiana at around 3.15 am local time. Some 35 others were reported injured after a US national with Muslim ties ran over them on Bourbon Street and later opened fire on survivors. The perpetrator was eventually gunned down by law enforcement officers, two of whom were wounded but reported stable. The FBI has taken over the investigation.
