    Theories that both the Tesla Cybertruck explosion in front of the Trump Tower in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the ramming of New Year celebrating pedestrians on New Orleans' Bourbon Street were connected terrorist attacks gained strength as it was determined that the two perpetrators had a military background, including a past at the Fort Liberty base in North Carolina, formerly known as Fort Bragg.

    Milei and González Urrutia to meet at Casa Rosada

    President Javier Milei will be meeting Saturday in Casa Rosada with Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia, who has been recognized by many countries -including Argentina- as the legitimate winner of the controversial July 28 elections where the incumbent Nicolás Maduro was announced as victor for a new term starting on Jan. 10.

    Brazil: Armed Forces open up to voluntary enlistment of women

    So far, women in the military are primarily assigned to roles in healthcare, education, and logistics

    Starting in the first half of 2026, the voluntary enlistment of women in Brazil's Armed Forces is now open, with the deadline for applications set for June 30, Agencia Brasil reported. Thus, women born in 2007, who will turn 18 this year, are eligible to apply. If accepted, they would be joining the force of their choice between March 2 and 6 between Aug. 3 to 7 for a 12-month service that can be extended for up to eight years.

    Uruguayan exports of goods reached US$ 12.845 billion last year

    According to Uruguay XXI, 2025 will be a good year for the agricultural sector in terms of production

    A study released in Montevideo Thursday by the Uruguay XXI Institute showed that the South American country's exports of goods reached U$S 12,845 million in 2024, which represented a 13% increase from 2023, driven particularly by cellulose exports and the recovery of soybean shipments after the drought the year before.

Once regarded as close allies and friends, Maduro and Lula do not see eye to eye after the controversial July 28 elections where the Chavista leader was declared the winner despite fraud allegations by Edmundo González Urrutia's Unitarian Democratic Platform (PUD).

    Boric South Pole bound after weather problems ruled out

    Boric's journey is supported by the British Antarctic Survey and the UK's Antarctic Program, among other international partners

    Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font's trip to the South Pole was confirmed Thursday by the La Moneda Palace in Santiago after its feasibility had been questioned due to poor weather. The journey between Jan. 2 and 4, will include other officials as well as a scientific team to tour the Union Glacier Joint Scientific Polar Station and the Amundsen-Scott Base.

    Covid-19 resurfaces abruptly in Bolivian Dept. of Santa Cruz

    Last week 14 Covid-related deaths were reported in Chile

    Health authorities in the Bolivian Department of Santa Cruz Thursday said that an “abrupt” increase in Covid-19 cases had been detected, due to which they encouraged residents to update their vaccination schemes and adopt all biosecurity protocols. A total of 290 infections were reported last week, 11 of which required hospitalization, including three under ventilation in intensive care units, and one death on Dec. 28. All 11 are unvaccinated patients, it was also explained.
