Ministerial delegations from Latin America spent several days of high level meetings in Europol headquarters in The Hague, aimed at strengthening cooperation between Latin American law enforcement authorities and Europol, enhancing strategic dialogue on tackling security threats such as organized crime and terrorism.

Brazil’s trade suffering the impacts of lower prices for commodity exports and rise in imports

Brazil’s trade balance during February experienced a monthly deficit of US$ 323.7 million, the first since January 2022, (US$ 59,1 million). This compares with a trade surplus of US$ 5.13 billion in the same month a year ago. However despite the negative result, Brazil maintained a trade surplus of US$1.9 billion for the first two months of the year, according to Valor Economico, the leading financial media of South America’s leading economy.

Philippines: Former President Duterte arrested upon landing in Manila

Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested at Manila’s international airport on Tuesday upon arriving from Hong Kong, following an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant for crimes against humanity. His detention came in connection with the ICC's investigation into the mass killings during Duterte’s brutal anti-drug crackdown, which spanned his time as mayor of Davao and his presidency (2016-2022).

Brazil's Anvisa approves weekly insulin to treat diabetes 1 and 2

Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has approved the drug Awiqli, produced by the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, to treat adult patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes, Agencia Brasil reported. It is the first weekly insulin shot in the world. There is no date for launching it nationwide.

Trial of Maradona's medical team starting this week

Seven healthcare professionals treating Argentine football legend Diego Armando Maradona will stand trial for manslaughter and negligence resulting in death starting this week. The proceedings are expected to last four months. If convicted, each defendant faces between eight and 25 years in jail. One nurse will be tried separately, starting in July, since she chose a trial by jury.

Lula makes key cabinet reshuffle

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva Monday launched a cabinet reshuffle by appointing Gleisi Hoffmann as Secretary of Institutional Relations in lieu of Alexander Padilha, who returned to the podition of Health Minister he held between 2011 and 2014 under former President Dilma Rousseff. Padilha replaced Nísia Trinidade, whom Lula sacked on Feb. 25.

CFK lambasts Milei for deal with IMF
