Carney to succeed Trudeau as Canadian PM

Mark Carney, a former central banker and governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, has been elected as the new leader of Canada’s Liberal Party, succeeding Justin Trudeau as prime minister after a landslide victory over former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland with 85.9% of the vote. His election comes at a time when the country faces a trade war with the United States, given President Donald Trump's tariffs, in addition to wanting it to become the 51st U.S. state.

Falklands celebrates Commonwealth Day; King Charles III Message

In honor of Commonwealth Day this Monday the 10th of March the Union Flag will be raised alongside the Falkland Islands Flag on Victory Green. This will be in the company of Members of the elected Legislative Assembly, and the Acting Governor Dave Morgan, gathering at Victory Green at 815am. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Falklands, dead Gentoo penguins return positive for avian influenza

Last Wednesday, 05 March 2025, dead Gentoo Penguins on the Falkland Islands Cape Dolphin turned out positive to the highly pathogenic avian influenza. Swabs from three of a few Gentoo Penguins found dead at Laskaridis acreages colony on Cape Dolphin returned positive for avian influenza.

At least ten killed in Bahía Blanca heavy storm

The heavy rain and severe flooding hitting the Argentine city of Bahía Blanca Friday resulted in at least ten deaths, with authorities warning that more victims may be discovered as water levels recede. The storm, which dumped 400 millimeters of water in eight hours, has left parts of the city under two meters of water, forcing the evacuation of 1,321 people to 15 rescue centers.
