Brazil and Chile sign 13 agreements, including two key defense ones

Defense Ministers Adriana Delpiano of Chile and José Mucio Monteiro of Brazil signed Tuesday two agreements: one for exchanging instructor officers between Chile’s Joint Peace Operations Training Center (Cecopac) and its Brazilian counterpart (Ccopab) to enhance peacekeeping training, and another for academic cooperation between Chile’s National Academy of Political and Strategic Studies (ANEPE) and the Brazilian Defense College (ESD) to advance research and training in security and defense.

Paraguayan health authorities tackle tuberculosis, HIV and other diseases

Paraguay’s Health Ministry and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) have launched a joint technical mission to strengthen the country’s response to HIV and tuberculosis, focusing on eliminating HIV, mother-to-child transmission of HIV, congenital syphilis, hepatitis B, and Chagas disease, as well as managing advanced HIV, TB, and HIV/TB co-infection.

Paraguay hopes to build 22 small hydroelectric plants through private investment

Paraguay plans to build 22 small hydroelectric power plants on internal rivers, with an estimated private investment of US$ 1.4 billion, explained Vice Minister of Mines and Energy Mauricio Bejarano in a radio interview after the enactment of the Small Hydroelectric Power Plants Law which grants the government free rein to bid for the construction of new dams.

Argentine Post uses interactive map mentioning Falklands and Stanley

Argentina's Postal Service took heavy flak for using an interactive map on its website, where the South Atlantic Islands Argentina claims to own were referred to as Falklands (and not Malvinas) and its capital was Stanley (not Puerto Argentino), which drew criticism from a several surfers who spotted the Government's slip.

Uruguay's Defense Ministry takes disciplinary measures in Cardama deal probe

Senior Uruguayan Navy officers, including former Commander-in-Chief Jorge Wilson, were handed down arrest sanctions for their roles in purchasing two ocean patrol vessels (OPVs) from Spain's Cardama shipyard, a company with no experience in that type of unit, and was also facing financial hardships.
