Peru's Congress slaps former President Vizcarra with new 10-year ban

Peru's one-house Congress disqualified former President Martin Vizcarra (2018-2020) for 10 years from holding public office due to his 2019 dissolution of Parliament, marking his third such sanction. The decision, approved late Wednesday with 67 votes in favor, 11 against, and 3 abstentions, followed a reconsideration of an earlier April 30 vote that lacked sufficient support.

Over 200 people killed in Air India crash after takeoff

An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, flight AI171, carrying 242 passengers (169 Indian, 53 British, 7 Portuguese, 1 Canadian) and 12 crew members, crashed into a residential area near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport in Ahmedabad, India, minutes after takeoff Thursday, en route to London Gatwick.

Three Bolivian Police officers killed in clashes with Evistas

Three Bolivian Police officers died Wednesday in the mining town of Llallagua after clashes with Evistas blocking roads in the Potosí region. The law enforcement agents were trying to remove one of the numerous blockades hitting the country, causing economic damages in addition to the lack of food supplies, medicines, and fuel to defend former President Evo Morales' ambition of a new candidacy despite having exceeded the number of terms (two) allowed by the Constitution.

US removes non-essential staff from diplomatic missions in Middle East

Washington has authorized the partial evacuation of non-essential diplomats and military personnel from its Middle East facilities, including the embassy in Baghdad and bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, and the UAE, due to heightened security risks stemming from a potential Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, it was reported Wednesday.

Colombian forces kill Tren de Aragua leader in gunfight

Earlier this week, Colombian troops gunned down alias El Viejo, an alleged leader of the Tren de Aragua transnational criminal gang stemming from Venezuela's Tocorón prison, it was reported Wednesday by Bogotá. During a raid, El Viejo fired at the forces and was killed “in the legitimate reaction ... in the course of military operations,” the Defense Ministry said.

UK-EU Joint Statement of Agreement in Respect of Gibraltar

Following talks in Brussels this Wednesday a Joint Statement was reached in respect of Gibraltar, between the European Commission, Spain and Gibraltar. European Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels on Wednesday 11 June.
