A group of Argentine veterans of the 1982 war and relatives of fallen soldiers unfurled at the Darwin cemetery in the Falklands a flag bearing the inscription “The Malvinas are Argentine”, a design the Argentine press describes as a reproduction of the one displayed by Argentina's national football team after defeating England at the 2026 World Cup. Well 2 of the 3 holding the rag up are not even veterans so perhaps next of kin. Always interesting when a group of trouble makers come instead of just GENUINE and RESPECTFUL Veterans and Families - as clearly they cannot understand their own language- at the approach to their cemetery is a clear sign in both languages from the
Argentine Families Association which makes it clear that that is not the correct level of behaviour and attitude to the cemetery of their fallen and make clear that the only things visitors can leave are rosaries and flowers.
Any letter or item such as a football shirt etc will soon be collected up and removed and disposed of.
One lady has a Flag over her shoulder - inside the cemetery , the Argentine flag can be laid on the grave of a soldier - or if a windy day- held up behind the cross at waist height and no more - that is respectful- holding higher is political and is not permitted by the Families Association.
It is sad that the goodwill of the majority who follow the rules gets upset by the stupid minority and then many Islanders tend to consider all of the visitors a unpleasant ill-educated lot.
