  Supplies and staff arrive at Uruguay's Artigas base in Antarctica

  

  After departing from Montevideo on Jan. 16, Uruguayan Navy's logistics vessel ROU 04 “General Artigas” has arrived in Antarctica as part of the Antarkos 2022-2023 campaign to deliver supplies to the Artigas Scientific Base.

  Celebrating “Burns supper” at BAS Rothera Research Station Antarctica

  

  Some 140 people, including 50 Scots, have gathered for the biggest-ever Burns supper held in Antarctica. Workers at the British Antarctic Survey’s Rothera Research Station in Antarctica celebrated the life of Robert Burns at what is believed to be the world’s most southerly knees-up on Saturday 21 January.

  The Veterinary Service section from the Falkland Islands Department of Agriculture has announced that it has received a reported outbreak of avian pox amongst Gentoo penguins in the Falklands.

  Argentina keeping an eye on Antarctica's new iceberg

  

  The Argentine Antarctic Institute (IAA) warned that the iceberg that calved off the Brunt Ice Shelf into the Wedell Sea is such a large structure that any vessel coming its way would have to take evasive action. Hence, it is being monitored to make sure it does not affect the icebreaker ARA Almirante Irízar's route from Ushuaia to the Argentine bases in the region.

  Huge iceberg size of Greater London, breaks off from Brunt Ice Shelf, location of BAS Halley Research Station

  

  A huge iceberg, some 1550 km², almost the size of Greater London, has broken off the 150m thick Brunt Ice Shelf. It calved after cracks that have been developing naturally over the last few years extended across the entire ice shelf, causing the new iceberg to break free. This occurred on Sunday 22 January between 19.00 and 20.00 UTC during a spring tide.

  Operation Austral Endurance delivers fuel drums by parachute from Falklands' MPC to BAS in Antarctica

  

  A Royal Air Force A400M Atlas aircraft has delivered vital fuel supplies to the British Antarctic Survey after taking off from the Falkland Islands Mount Pleasant Complex. The RAF said the range of the Atlas was extended by air-to-air refueling from a Royal Air Force Voyager, as part of Operation Austral Endurance..

  Polar Preet breaks Antarctic records and is recovering at Union Glacier

  

  Following a delayed rendezvous because of weather and polar terrain, Polar Preet has rendezvoused with her pilot and has taken off to head to Union Glacier in Antarctica. British Army officer Captain Preet Chandi – known as Polar Preet – is expected to spend some time recovering at Union Glacier, the Antarctica base camp, before leaving the continent.

  Chinese port in Tierra del Fuego controversy: Argentine media and UK blamed for spreading “fake news”

  New iceberg calved into Antarctica's Weddel Sea

  

  A 1,550 km2 iceberg broke off from Antarctica's Brunt Ice Shelf, British scientists reported Monday. “The 1,550-square-kilometer block of ice broke off the ice shelf between 7 pm and 8 pm Sunday after a strong tide widened an existing crack in the ice shelf,” the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) explained.

  Lula's trip to Argentina to include Antarctica deal

  

  Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva's trip to Argentina next week will include the signing of a treaty for scientific and logistical cooperation between the two countries' Antarctic stations, Agencia Brasil reported. A gas pipeline will also be on the agenda with President Alberto Fernández.
