  UK Antarctic Heritage Trust celebrates 80th birthday of Port Lockroy

  

  The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust is recalling that on 11 February, the flagship site Port Lockroy celebrated its 80th birthday, and that over the coming weeks the Trust has further celebration plans.   Youth Orchestra to perform at Urguay's Artigas Base in Antarctica

  

  Uruguay's Official Service of Broadcasting, Performances, and Shows (Servicio Oficial de Difusión, Representaciones y Espectáculos - Sodre) National Youth Orchestra (OJS) will send a delegation of 16 musicians to the Artigas Scientific Base in Antarctica to give a concert “For Peace and Science” marking the 40th anniversary of the South American country's presence in the area, it was reported in Montevideo.

  HMS Protector removes waste from Brabant Island next to Antarctica Peninsula

  

  Royal Navy sailors have helped preserve the natural beauty of Antarctica by removing three tons of waste from an island. Ice patrol HMS Protector returned to Brabant Island – on the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula – for the first time since 2017 to continue work to remove abandoned equipment from an expedition in the 1980s.

  A team have arrived at Rothera Research Station, ready to start testing the new Windracers ULTRA autonomous drone in Antarctica. If successful, the new drone platform could represent a major addition to British Antarctic Survey’s scientific capability on the frozen continent – offering the potential to do more science at a lower cost, with a lower carbon footprint than traditional crewed aviation.

  Ice Patrol HMS Protector is helping to study the impact of tourism on Antarctica

  

  The Royal Navy Ice Patrol HMS Protector took scientists on an Antarctic research cruise to analyze the increasing impact of tourism and climate change on the frozen continent, a challenge which has been underlined by IAATO, the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators. IAATO has pointed out that during the 2022/23 season more than 104,000 visitors traveled to Antarctica.

  Power restored at Uruguay's Artigas Base in Antarctica

  

  Uruguay's National Administration of Power Plants and Electrical Transmissions (UTE) has restored power supply at the South American country's Artigas Scientific Base in Antarctica, it was reported Monday in Montevideo. The service had been interrupted between Thursday at 2.28 pm and late Sunday.
