    Brazilian inflation in August drops slightly but remains above target

    Brazil’s official consumer inflation index (IPCA) fell 0.11% in August, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported last week. This was the first negative reading since August 2024 and the sharpest drop since September 2022, when inflation fell 0.29%.

    Bolsonaro discharged from hospital, goes back to house arrest

    Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was discharged on Wednesday from the hospital after being admitted the day before for kidney problems, dehydration, and low blood pressure. Doctors also revealed that two skin lesions removed during a procedure on Sunday tested positive for an “early-stage” squamous cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer.

Last month, Brazil shipped just over 21,600 bags of specialty coffee to the US, representing a staggering 79.5% drop compared to the same month in 2024, according to data released by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé) on Monday.
