    Falklands Treasury launches new series of coins depicting the King Penguin

    The highly anticipated and very successful three-day event Junior Falkland Islands Games took place from 6th to 8th December. Students from Years 7 to 10 were grouped into four teams - Caracara Crusaders, Dynamo Dolphins, Mighty Steamer Ducks, and Rockin’ Rockhoppers - and participated in an exciting array of competitions, including dodgeball, basketball, football, and swimming.

    A new documentary titled Endurance has premiered, bringing to life the remarkable survival story of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ill-fated 1914 Antarctic expedition. The film, from National Geographic Documentary Films, combines restored archival footage of the century-old expedition with the modern-day quest to discover the wreckage of Shackleton’s ship, Endurance, which was found in 2022. The documentary is directed by Academy Award® winners Chai Vasarhelyi, Jimmy Chin, along with BAFTA® nominee Natalie Hewit.

    The Falkland Islands 2024/25 Shearing circuit kicked off at Goose Green on Saturday October 19. The Open Shearing saw Adam Dickson take a well-deserved win, ahead of Jon Roberts in second place. Evan Jones finished third and Igan Kennedy was fourth. In the Wool Handling class Talia Jones beat Pilar Castro to the top spot. Leila Gilding came third with Holly Turner fourth.

    Brazilian Police do it again: 20 Peñarol fans remanded in Rio

    A total of 21 supporters of Uruguayan football club Peñarol were arrested this week in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro before a match with Botafogo and charged with racism, damage, and criminal association. “Nobody justifies criminal behavior, but this was a scandal,” said Peñarol's lawyer and former President Jorge Barrera. Brazil's criminal procedural legislation contemplates “these regrettable but foreseeable results,” he added.
