  HMS Protector play football at the most southerly and rugged pitch: South Georgia

  

  Sailors from the Royal Navy went head to head with British Antarctic Survey staff during a game of football on the most southerly – and arguably the worst – pitch in the world. The playing field, at Grytviken, the largest settlement of South Georgia Island, in the South Atlantic, is billed as the most southerly in the world, some 2,476 miles from the South Pole, to be precise.

  Falklands Museum receives £60,000 donation from Consolidated Fisheries Limited

  

  The Falkland Islands Museum & National Trust (FIMNT) received a significant donation of £60,000 from Consolidated Fisheries Limited (CFL) on January 11 to assist in the construction of the Lookout Gallery & Exhibition Hall, a new building for the museum to display items which have no space in the Historic Dockyard Museum.

  Two humanitarian flights between Argentina and the Falklands carried out this week

  

  Two flights between Argentina and the Falkland Islands have been reported in the past few days for humanitarian reasons. One to Ushuaia was to bring an Argentina national and the one to Buenos Aires' Aeroparque was carried out for a US patient.

  An Argentine-registered private aircraft has been reported to have performed a nonstop return trip between Buenos Aires' Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP/SABE) and the Mount Pleasant air base (MPN/EGYP) in the Falkland Islands late on Monday.
