  Falklands undertakes a major review of fisheries policy

  

  A major review of the Falkland Island fisheries establishes a strong foundation, building on what has already been achieved. Executive Council (ExCo) has adopted a number of recommendations from a review carried out in 2018 by New Zealand consultants Terra Moana, of the Falkland Islands’ Individual Transferable Quota (ITQ) system.

  “Welcome to the Falkland Islands” sign to be relocated for safety reasons

  

  The Falklands' Planning and Building Committee has approved an application to move the iconic ‘Welcome to the Falkland Islands’ sign, despite the Planning Officer’s recommendation that it be refused. Falkland Islands Tourist Board made the application, citing safety concerns over tourists stopping on the pontoon to take photographs of the sign. It will be moved to the public jetty, rotating through 90 degrees.

  IAATO has suspended One Ocean Expeditions; Falklands' call of “Resolute” cruise cancelled

  

  The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) has essentially suspended One Ocean Expeditions’ (OOE) membership in the group, according to a statement sent to members and obtained by Cruise Industry News. One Ocean’s future continues to raise a question mark as departures are cancelled and the RCGS Resolute continues to sit in Buenos Aires.

  Malvinas “Virgin of Lujan” image finally arrives to Buenos Aires

  

  An image of Argentina Patroness, the Virgin of Lujan which was left behind by the Argentine soldiers at the end of the Falklands/Malvinas war, and was recently returned by the United Kingdom and blessed by Pope Francis in the Vatican, finally arrived in Buenos Aires early morning Monday, 37 years after the conflict was over.

  Falklands extends duration of Rockhopper and Argos Resources oil exploration licenses

  

  Rockhopper Exploration PLC said on Monday that the Falkland Islands government has extended the duration of the PL032 Discovery Area License until May 1, 2021, with no additional license commitments.

  New Falklands Patrol, HMS Forth, sails to the South Atlantic

  

  The Royal Navy's HMS Forth has set sail for a long-term deployment into the Falkland Islands. The ship left Portsmouth Naval Base early Friday for the South Atlantic where she will act as the Islands' Protection Vessel, replacing HMS Clyde.
