    Falklands oil industry: final investment decision on Sea Lion project by end of the year

    South Georgia fishing licenses controversy headed to the High Court

    The Express says that Mr. Street applied for one of six lucrative permits to catch tooth-fish, “but governors on the island...snubbed the only UK application”.

    Under the heading of 'Betrayal' Fury as UK's bid for application to fish near the Falklands is Snubbed', Cyril Dixon from the Express reports that the head of South Georgia Fisheries company, Rupert Street will be going to the High Court in London to seek a judicial review on the decision which denied his company fishing licenses in South Georgia Islands.

    Falklands' HMS Clyde replacement delayed because of post-Brexit defense duties

    Currently there are three POVs based around the UK and Europe with HMS Clyde, stationed in the Falkland Islands

    The Daily Mail has reported that the Royal Navy is to keep old offshore patrol vessels it was due to decommission to ensure it has enough vessels to police Britain's borders after Brexit. This allegedly means the Falkland Islands patrol HMS Clyde, which was to be replaced by HMS Forth from the new batch of patrol vessels and which is scheduled to become active operational next September, will remain in service in the South Atlantic.

    South Georgia fisheries licensing controversy reaches the leading media in UK

    Applications from two companies based in the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Fisheries and Fortuna Ltd, were rejected.

    Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson was accused of betraying by handing lucrative licenses in the South Atlantic to foreign firms. The row erupted after it emerged that £75million worth of licenses in the South Atlantic have been handed to firms from Norway, Chile and New Zealand, according to reports in the UK media.

    Falklands tourism operators agree 2017/18 was a successful cruise season

    The Falklands' season ended on April 7 with total visitor arrivals for the season at 57,496. Visitors arriving on expedition ships totaled 13,686, up 17%

    Visitor arrivals to the Falkland Islands were up 3.1% compared to the previous tourist season, confirmed Executive Director of the Tourist Board Stephanie Middleton to Penguin News. The Falklands' season ended on April 7 with total visitor arrivals for the season at 57,496. Ms Middleton outlined how, as with last season, it was the expedition vessels that mainly contributed to the hike in numbers.

    The contract is for five years, delivering beef, lamb and mutton to the MOD’s and Ecolog’s exacting standards of price, availability and - of course - quality.

    The Falkland Islands Meat Company - FIMCo - has entered into a supply contract with Ecolog – a key provider for UK Ministry of Defense facilities at MPC/MPA, to provide their high-quality Falkland Islands meats.     Falklands' parade on 21st April to celebrate Queen's birthday

    The Parade will include a 21 gun salute and a fly past, and will be followed by a march past at which Governor Phillips CBE, will take the Royal Salute.

    The Falkland Islands will be holding a parade to celebrate the birthday of the Queen at Victory Green on Saturday 21st April 2018. The parade will form up at Victory Green at 10.20 hours and Governor Nigel Phillips CBE will arrive at 10.30 hours.

    HMS Protector expected in Buenos Aires

    Falkland Islands joins RAF centenary celebrations

    Falklands Governor Nigel Phillips pays tribute to the RAF.

    The Falkland Islands also joined Royal Air Force centenary celebrations. Despite poor weather the hangar event held at Mount Pleasant Complex, MPC, to celebrate RAF 100 the Royal Air Force Centenary (April 1) “went off perfectly,” according to spokesperson for the event.
