    “Malouines to Malvinas” exhibition in Ushuaia Museum

    The “End of the World” museum in downtown Ushuaia will be hosting the exhibition which is expected to remain open for several months

    Next Thursday the Ushuaia museum in Tierra del Fuego will open an exhibition titled “From Malouines to Malvinas”, depicting history since the French occupation of the Falklands in the XVIIIth century to the first Argentine governor of the Islands.

    Falklands second flight: Minister Faurie confirms the interest of seven airlines

    Foreign minister Faurie was summoned to the Senate foreign affairs committee to defend the current administration's foreign policy

    Argentine foreign minister Jorge Faurie this week revealed to the Senate foreign affairs committee that seven airlines have stated their interest in servicing a second commercial flight between the Falkland Islands and the continent: two from Uruguay, two from Chile and three from Brazil.

    Falklands' air service upgrading avionics of its fleet of Islanders

    Britten-Norman has reported that it completed the first in a series of avionics upgrades to a fleet of five BN2B-26 Islanders owned and operated by the Falkland Island Government Aviation Services (FIGAS). The avionics are being upgraded to the Garmin G600 glass cockpit standard including the GTN650/750 GPS/NAV/COMM, GTX335R remote transponder and electronic engine instruments.

    The Falkland Islands Communications Regulator, Susannah Nightingale, has announced the launch of a spectrum management project. ‘Radio spectrum’ often abbreviated to ‘spectrum’ is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum which is used for radio transmissions. Frequencies in this range can be used for many different types of communications such as television, radio, mobile phone and broadband services.

    Exchanges of information between the Falkland Islands and Argentina about fish and squid stocks could begin again before the middle of this year, if all parties are in agreement. Director of Natural Resources John Barton said: “Dialogue with Argentina on the conservation of shared marine resources has the potential to allow for better management of shared fish stocks and improve sustainability of such stocks.”

    Falkland Islanders like to vote and turnout is very significant

    The Falkland Islands Registration Officer is carrying out a yearly canvass with the purpose of updating the Electoral Register. Accordingly this Thursday, 15 March, all households in the Islands should receive a form V “request for information from householders” in the post.
