    Falklands' lawmaker in Guyana to discuss self determination and border controversies

    Falkland Islands lawmaker MLA Ian Hansen made on Wednesday a courtesy call on Guyana's Minister of State Joseph Harmon at his office in the Ministry of Presidency, in Georgetown, the country's capital.

    Falklands' war hero Rick Jolly, who saved hundreds of lives of British and Argentine solider, has died

    Jolly became a national hero during the Falklands War after setting up a field hospital and treating both British and Argentine wounded

    A Royal Navy medical officer who saved the lives of hundreds of British and Argentine troops during the Falklands War has died, aged 71. Working amid terrible conditions in the field, Surgeon Capt Rick Jolly OBE, from Torpoint, Cornwall, saved the life of every British serviceman he treated. He is the only person to have been decorated by both Britain and Argentina for his service during the conflict.

    Falklands radio station with new old faces

    Corina Goss has returned as Station Manager. Corina was also the station manager from 2005 to 2016, having joined the station in 1993, aged just 16

    Falklands: Rockhopper satisfied with advance of Sea Lion project

    CEO Sam Moody said he was pleased to start 2018 by reporting material progress alongside partner Premier in moving forward many aspects of the Sea Lion project

    Rockhopper Exploration said the Sea Lion phase 1 project in the North Falkland Basin was moving towards sanction at the end of 2018. London-listed Rockhopper said project partners had been focusing on securing the US$1.5billion of capex required to achieve first oil.

    Falklands concern with vast fishing fleet gathering on high seas

    Barton confirmed the fleet had been out there from an early date and was likely to be catching small squid as well as having the capacity to catch a great deal of squid

    A vast fleet of fishing vessels assembling to catch Illex squid on the high seas, some 400 miles north of the Falkland Islands, is an issue of concern to the Falkland Islands Fisheries Department.

    Eastern Falkland Plateau to be surveyed by state of the art scientific research vessel

    The RRS Discovery arrived on Tuesday in Chile's extreme south port of Punta Arenas in advance of her next research expedition, to undertake seismic survey and piston coring operations in the eastern Falkland Plateau region of the Sub-Antarctic Southwest Atlantic Ocean.

    Falklands new Chief of Justice has very close links with the Islands

    James Lewis QC commented that he was very much looking forward “to taking up the appointment of Chief Justice and getting to know the Falkland Islands”

    On instructions from the Secretary of State, His Excellency the Governor has formally appointed Mr James Lewis QC as the Honorable the Chief Justice of the Falkland Islands. Mr Lewis was officially sworn in by the Governor at a ceremony held at Government House on Thursday 4 January.

    Falklands congratulate Gibraltar political leader on his knighthood

     MLA Teslyn Barkman, said: “We were delighted to learn of Sir Joe receiving this well-deserved honour and offer him our warmest congratulations.”

    The Falkland Islands Government, FIG, has congratulated Gibraltar minister Joe Bossano on being awarded a knighthood in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for 2018. In a statement in which it described Sir Joe as a “long-standing friend of the Falkland Islands”, FIG said he has spoken vociferously in support of Falkland Islander’s right to self-determination at various international forums.

    Falklands' national identity research triggered by years of Kirchner governments

    Falklands national identity has become of more interest in recent years, both in the Islands and elsewhere in the world.

    Students of national identities will recall that throughout the long years of the Kirchner regimes in Argentina, and despite all historical evidence to the contrary, that country’s foreign ministers, ambassadors and even its presidents were adamant that there was really no such thing as a Falkland Islander.
