  Residents of the Falkland Islands went to the polls yesterday, with results released earlier this morning. Seventeen candidates stood for election to the Legislative Assembly and have campaigned over the past month to be elected to office.

  Argentina surfaces three Spanish Malvinas documents from 1767

  

  Argentine former vice president and currently Senator of the ruling coalition, Julio Cobos has announced the discovery of three letters dated 1767, revealing an exchange of information between then Buenos Aires city governor, and Felipe Ruiz Puente, described as the first Malvinas Islands governor. At the time was part of the Spanish colonial empire.

  Falklands announces appointment of next Attorney General

  

  The Falkland Islands Government announced on Wednesday the appointment of Simon Young as the next Attorney General of the Falkland Islands. Mr. Young, is due to arrive in early December and will be coming to the Islands with his wife Claire and their three sons.

  Candidates in General Election in Falkland Islands propose a wide-ranging agenda

  

  Residents of the Falkland Islands are due to go to the polls to elect their new Legislative Assembly on Thursday 9th November 2017. Seventeen candidates are standing for the eight available spots on the Assembly. The Assembly is responsible for the internal government of the Islands and sets the national agenda. It also liaises with the United Kingdom Government on issues of defence and is increasingly actively involved in foreign affairs efforts on behalf of the Islands.

  Falklands and Bermuda governments fund their governors' uniforms

  

  Who pays for the uniforms worn by the Governors of British Overseas Territories was discussed in UK Parliament last week, with Minister of State stating that since 2001, the policy “has been that those Territories wishing to keep their ceremonial uniforms pay for them themselves,” and currently the “Governors of Bermuda and Falkland Islands retain the uniform, both funded by their respective Territory governments.”

  Falklands launches 2017 Poppy Appeal: 100th anniversary of Passchendaele and 35th of South Atlantic conflict

  

  This week the Falkland Islands Branch of the Royal British Legion officially launched the Island’s 2017 Poppy Appeal. Since 1921 members of the public have worn the red poppy on their chest as a symbol of Remembrance to remember the fallen Service men and women killed in conflict.

  Argentina formally protests Rapier missile exercise in the Falklands

  

  Argentina presented on Thursday a formal protest to the United Kingdom embassy in Buenos Aires rejecting the military exercises with Rapier missiles in the Falkland Islands, scheduled to take place next week.
