  South Georgia launches four-year toothfish licensing round

  

  The Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands has launched the next toothfish licensing round. The documentation offered provides information for anyone applying for a license to fish for toothfish in the South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands Maritime Zone for the years 2018 – 2021. The deadline for applications is 10 December, according to the latest SGSSI Newsletter.

  Malvinas relatives of soldiers buried at Falklands Darwin cemetery are informed on the Red Cross report

  

  Two groups of four families of Malvinas fallen combatants will be informed on Tuesday of the results of the identification of Argentine soldiers buried in the Falklands Darwin cemetery, contained in the report delivered last Friday by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

  Anniversary of the Battle of the Falkland Islands

  

  Gilbert House, seat of the Falkland Islands elected government announced the following program for Friday 8th December 2017 to commemorate the victory of the Naval engagements of 8th December 1914, on which day 6 British sailors lost their lives and a number of others died later from injuries received during the battle. 2,260 German sailors also lost their lives.

  Falklands response to results of the ICRC humanitarian forensic identification project

  

  The Falkland Islands government has released a response to the results of the International Committee of the Red Cross humanitarian project to identify the remains of the Argentine combatants buried at the Darwin cemetery. The project was the result of a December 2016 agreement between United Kingdom and the Argentine governments, facilitated by the Falklands government.

  The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Friday handed out its forensic reports resulting from the work it carried out to identify the mortal remains of Argentine soldiers buried in Darwin cemetery.

  Red Cross delivers report on unidentified Argentine combatants buried in Falklands

  

  The International Committee of the Red Cross is scheduled on Friday to hand the Argentine government the final report on the 121 graves of unknown Argentine combatants who fought in the South Atlantic conflict in 1982 and are buried in the Darwin cemetery, and whose remains were analyzed for identification earlier this year by a forensic team.

  Falklands expecting a “pretty good” 2017/2018 cruise season

  

  Despite the cancellation of two planned ship visits in November, Falkland Islands agencies are optimistic about the prospects for the 2017/18 cruise season. Carli Sudder of Sulivan Shipping Ltd told Penguin News she thought the season was looking “pretty good” with some new ships like Silver Muse (capacity 590) and the return of others like Island Sky (capacity 114).
