  Argentine Navy rescues injured sailor off South Georgia Islands

  

  The Argentine Navy rescued from the oceanographic fishing research vessel (BIPO) “Victor Angelescu”, 90 miles off South Georgia Islands, a 55-year-old man who suffered a crushing trauma to his right leg, reported Clarin. The operation involved the icebreaker ARA Almirante Irízar.

  2022 Was a Boom Year For Falklands Squid and Finfish Fleets

  

  Fisheries authorities in the Falkland Islands have said that 2022 was a bumper year for the squid and hake fishing fleets licenced by the territory. Sixteen ships caught a remarkable 101,166 tonnes of loligo squid; a catch that was exceeded only in 1989 when 118,120 tonnes were landed, although that record catch was achieved by almost three times as many ships.

  HMS Protector says “Farewell, Falklands”

  

  The Royal Navy's only ice patrol HMS Protector has left the Falkland Islands on her way back to Plymouth after four of Antarctic work. It will be a 6,000-mile journey for maintenance and training after completing her season last month safeguarding birdlife and laying the groundwork for further research in the years to come protecting wildlife, safeguarding birdlife, and leaving behind special markers.

  A team from Uruguay's news show Telenoche (Montevideo's Channel 4) is visiting the Falkland Island marking the 10th anniversary of the referendum whereby the local population ratified its will to remain a British Overseas Territory despite sovereignty claims from Argentina.

  Argentina withdraws from Foradori-Duncan Treaty

  

  Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero Thursday told his British colleague James Cleverly that the South American country was pulling out of the Foradori-Duncan agreement signed between both countries in 2016 and which was pivotal to the identification of bodies of soldiers known only to God buried in the Falkland Islands, among other improvements in bilateral ties.
