    Falklands' beds for tourists has grown by 31% and is now 500

    The number of rooms and beds available in the Falkland Islands has increased significantly over the last two seasons, both in Stanley and Camp, Stephanie Middleton, Executive Director of the Falkland Islands Tourist Board told the Penguin News.

    Falklands 2017/18 budget had an operating surplus of £38 million

    MLA Roger Spink says a great deal of effort has been taken to more accurately forecast the Falklands' income in the 2018/19 year

    The Falkland Islands Government operating surplus of £38 million for 2017/18 was driven primarily by favourable Corporation Tax receipts. The original budgeted deficit in my view led the former Legislative Assembly to be over cautious in their demands leading to unnecessary thrift in some areas, according to MLA Roger Spink, who is head of the Government Services Portfolio of the Assembly.

    Falklands' competition open to students from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay

    In 2017, Mauricio Giraudo was the Uruguayan winner, who traveled with Marco Aurélio Franceschini from Brazil and Hristo Gómez from Chile.

    The Government of the Falkland Islands and the British Embassies in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay invites university students to participate. This regional competition offers winners the chance to visit the Falklands for a week with all the costs covered.

    Falkland Island’s participation in International hockey tournaments at Patagonia

    This year the Falkland Islands teams competed in two international ice hockey tournaments. Firstly two of our player/coaches took part in The Patagonian Brotherhood Cup held in Puerto Williams. They competed as part of the rest of the world team with players from other countries eventually taking 3rd place.

    Falklands' tender process for construction of vulnerable person' care facility

    The Falkland Islands Executive Council has selected Galliford Try as the preferred company for the construction of the new Vulnerable Person’s Extra Care Facility in Stanley. The decision follows a detailed scrutiny of the bids received by Members of the Legislative Assembly and Government officers, who subsequently submitted recommendations to the Executive Council.

    Falklands approves application to register a new build trawler

    Argos Cies is 75 metres long, has 1,998 gross tonnage and will carry up to 50 crew members. She will be delivered by Nodosa shipyard at a cost of €21 million

    The Falkland Islands Executive Council on Wednesday granted the application by Jupiter Fishing Company to register a new build fishing trawler. The agreed name of the new vessel is Argos Cies, which reflects the 50:50 partnership in Jupiter between Argos Group Ltd of Stanley, Falkland Islands and Armadora Pereira SA of Vigo, Spain.

    Falklands appoints Ramboll UK Ltd as professional services framework contractor

    The framework will assist delivery of FIG's capital investment program, including upgrades to the MPA terminal and improvements to Stanley Airport.

    In June 2018, the Falkland Islands Government issued an invitation to tender for a single supplier professional services framework contract. The framework will assist delivery of the Government’s capital investment programme, which includes developing the sixth phase of Sapper Hill, new port facilities, upgrades to the MPA terminal and improvements to Stanley Airport.
