    Battle Day in London

    Falklands Government Representative Ms Sukey Cameron and Mr Andrew Rosindell MP go forward to lay their wreaths for the FI Government and the FI All-Party Parliamentary Group

    The annual Falklands memorial service at the Cenotaph took place on the 9th December under a brilliant cloudless sky. This commemorates all those who gave their lives liberating the Falklands from Argentine occupation in 1982. But it originally commemorated the naval Battle of the Falkland Islands, on the 8th of December 1914, and those who gave their lives then.

    Falklands' ferry operations temporarily suspended until at least 20 December

    Concordia Bay will be held in dry dock in Punta Arenas during December so that essential works can be carried out to resolve existing technical issues.

    The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) has confirmed that the Concordia Bay ferry service will be suspended until at least Wednesday 20 December. The temporary suspension of ferry operations during December had been advanced in an initial public announcement in November by Workboat Services Limited (WSL)

    Battle Day marked in the Falkland Islands 103 years on

    “Falkland Islanders remember those who lost their lives in the famous Battle of the Falkland Islands over a century ago”.

    Residents of the Falkland Islands annually mark one of the early major naval battles of the First World War, which took place off the coast of the Islands. This year the event was commemorated with a traditional parade, made up of Members of the Falkland Islands Defence Force.

    Falklands/Buenos Aires Ezeiza airport direct flight by a RAF Voyager transport

    A RAF Voyager transport, in a direct link from MPA in the Falkland Islands landed on Thursday morning at Ezeiza airport in Buenos Aires with 25 members of the HMS Protector crew, on time to catch a midday British Airways flight to London. It has been decades since an RAF unit lands in the Argentine capital international airport.

    Falklands Code of Practice covers much of ILO Work in Fishing Convention

    John Barton pointed out that the FIG Code of Practice which came into force in 2015, already contained provisions relating to the working conditions of fishermen.

    A convention which has been described as opening up a new era for millions of fishermen worldwide will have some impact on fishermen working in the Falkland Islands' waters. Director of Natural Resources John Barton said that he thought some of the articles of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Work in Fishing Convention 2007 would be enshrined into Falklands licensing conditions make them more robust.

    South Georgia launches four-year toothfish licensing round

    The deadline for applications is 10 December, according to the latest SGSSI Newsletter.

    The Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands has launched the next toothfish licensing round. The documentation offered provides information for anyone applying for a license to fish for toothfish in the South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands Maritime Zone for the years 2018 – 2021. The deadline for applications is 10 December, according to the latest SGSSI Newsletter.

    Malvinas relatives of soldiers buried at Falklands Darwin cemetery are informed on the Red Cross report

    Darwin cemetery in the Falklands will in the near future have 88 crosses identified

    Two groups of four families of Malvinas fallen combatants will be informed on Tuesday of the results of the identification of Argentine soldiers buried in the Falklands Darwin cemetery, contained in the report delivered last Friday by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

    Anniversary of the Battle of the Falkland Islands

    The Falklands Battle Memorial in Stanley where the commemoration will take place on Friday

    Gilbert House, seat of the Falkland Islands elected government announced the following program for Friday 8th December 2017 to commemorate the victory of the Naval engagements of 8th December 1914, on which day 6 British sailors lost their lives and a number of others died later from injuries received during the battle. 2,260 German sailors also lost their lives.

    Falklands response to results of the ICRC humanitarian forensic identification project

    “We understand the importance of this work in helping to find answers for families who have been waiting for a considerable time”, Ian Hansen MLA said

    The Falkland Islands government has released a response to the results of the International Committee of the Red Cross humanitarian project to identify the remains of the Argentine combatants buried at the Darwin cemetery. The project was the result of a December 2016 agreement between United Kingdom and the Argentine governments, facilitated by the Falklands government.
