  Tax havens to face new UN corruption code.

  Gibraltar, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and other British Overseas Territories including the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands will come under more pressure to disclose details about bank accounts next year when the new United Nations Convention against Corruption becomes effective worldwide.

  Not much impact expected from changes in Falklands ship registration.

  Ships registered in the Falklands were formerly registered as one vessel type, with a single register for all ships. This is now set to change, as Governor Pearce explained in his report on the Thursday 16th December meeting of the Islands' Executive Council.

  Permission was granted during last Thursday's meeting of the Falkland Islands Executive Council to Falklands Gold and Minerals Ltd. to begin a programme of exploratory drilling.

  International effort to halt decline of albatross and petrels.

  In some species of albatross and petrels, the rate of decline is so serious that extinction is a very real possibility before the year 2050. This was the bald warning issued last week by ornithologist, Dr. Andrew Douse, speaking on the Falkland Islands Radio programme, Conservation Conversation.
