  Argentine architects advance War Memorial in Falklands.

  Plans to erect a permanent Memorial in the Falkland Islands to Argentines who died in the 1982 War has taken another step forward with the arrival in the Islands of two Argentine architects and their ?minder' from Buenos Aires. However Falklands Councillors have warned the Argentines that there will be no ?short-cut' to obtaining approval for the Memorial at Darwin, some 60 miles from the capital Port Stanley, where 244 Argentines, victims of the 10 weeks War, are buried.

  The Falklands Financial Secretary Derek Howatt was able to announce to the Legislature on Friday afternoon that despite earlier fears of a deficit, he was after-all able to announce a ?balanced budget' for the financial year 2001/02.

  A British Foreign Office spokesman in the Falkland Islands has responded to recent criticism by several elected Councillors with respect to ?a lack of continuity in the Overseas Territories Department' of the Foreign Office.

  Future Falklands Governors to abandon “Colonial Uniform”?

  The possibility that future Governors of the Falkland Islands will no longer wear the symbolic Colonial uniform, complete with flowing plumes, has been raised by Governor Donald Lamont during his annual address to the Legislative Council. He told the Falklands population that if they wish future Governors to wear uniform then the Falklands taxpayer will have to be prepared to pay the cost of the coat, trousers, hat, white gloves, belts, brading, ceremonial sword and boots which are adorned with spurs.

  A DISPUTE BETWEEN British Military officers in the Falkland Islands and officials of the Falkland Islands Development Corporation (FIDC) over the future arrival and departure times of Lan Chile flights to the Islands appears to be nearing an arbitrary conclusion, according to the General Manager of FIDC.
