Gibraltarians support allowing regulated commercial fishing in territorial waters

An overwhelming majority of Gibraltarians believe that Gibraltar should take part in ‘ad hoc’ talks with Spain and the UK and there is strong support for allowing commercial fishing in British Gibraltar territorial Water so long as this is under a properly regulated licensing system.

Ecuador to combat IUU fishing as part of trade agreement with the EU

Greenpeace names twenty “monster vessels, the scourge of the oceans”

Five fishing vessels from Spain are among the 20 most destructive community fishing vessels in the European Union, according to a new report from the environmental organization Greenpeace. Out of the five, two are from Galicia,: Eirado do Costal, with home port in Cangas, and Playa de Tambo, based in Marin.

Falklands have a per capita GDP “ten times higher than Argentina”

Argentina's financial daily, El Cronista Comercial has published two articles on the Falkland Islands based on data from the 2014 Statistical Yearbook stating that the Islands enjoy a GDP per capita several times higher than Argentina and that the economy has been expanding at 11% annually since 2008.

AOA calls on CCAMLR to agree on marine protection of the Ross Sea and East Antarctica

As representatives of the 25 Members of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) meet this week in Hobart, where they will decide the fate of two key protection proposals in the Ross Sea and East Antarctica, the Antarctic Ocean Alliance (AOA) (*) called on the member countries to honor their conservation commitments and finally agree to lasting and significant Southern Ocean protection.
