  Ghanaian officials asked a judge Thursday to order the Argentine navy ship detained in the West African nation over a debt dispute to be moved because it was blocking valuable space at the port of Tema.

  ARA Libertad: Defence minister takes responsibility; Ghana embarrassed with the incident

  

  Argentine Defence Minister Arturo Puricelli took responsibility on Thursday for the fate of the navy training frigate Libertad, which continues to be impounded in Ghana. Meanwhile from Ghana a top official said the country was “embarrassed” with the whole incident.

  Olympics and Diamond Jubilee help UK economy return to growth in third quarter

  

  Spurred by the Olympics the UK economy returned to growth at its fastest pace in five years, official figures showed on Thursday. GDP 1% in the third quarter of the year, the Office for National Statistics said. This ended three consecutive quarters of declining output.

  Argentine seamen are back in Buenos Aires; small group remains in Ghana

  

  After three weeks retained in Ghana, members of the crew and cadets from the Argentine Navy training vessel ARA Libertad arrived past midnight Wednesday to Ezeiza airport in Buenos Aires where relatives and media were waiting.

  Spanish economy continues to contract with no short term expectations of change

  

  Spain’s economy contracted 0.4% in the third quarter and continues to face strong headwinds, the central bank said on Tuesday. Adverse financial conditions eased “somewhat” and the decline in domestic demand was 1.2%, an improvement over the 1.4% fall in the second quarter.

  Italian seismic experts sentenced to jail for inadequate warning triggers global controversy

  

  Six scientists and a government official were sentenced to six years in prison for manslaughter by an Italian court on Monday for failing to give adequate warning of an earthquake that killed more than 300 people in L'Aquila in 2009.
