
Paraguay's National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad) decided to break off from its partnership with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), according to a note sent by Minister Jalil Rachid on Dec 6, which went public Tuesday in Asunción. Rachid said the move stemmed from the need to optimize resources and strengthen operational areas.

The Paraguayan Chamber of Grain and Oilseed Producers and Exporters (Capeco) announced Monday that the South American country produced nearly 11 million tons of soybeans during the 2023-24 season, which generated revenues of around US$ 4 billion up to last month, a significant progress from the previous US$ 3.5 billion.

Paraguayan authorities reported an increase in the water levels at the Yacyretá hydroelectric dam this weekend following heavy rains in recent days. Argentine Senator Edgardo Kueider was arrested Wednesday in Paraguay after trying to get into the country with around US$ 200,000 and AR$ 600,000 (US$ 60,000) of undeclared cash. He was caught by Paraguayan authorities when trying to drive through the La Amistad bridge from Brazil.

Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Tuesday signed into law the so-called National Regime of Integrity, Transparency and Prevention of Corruption of the Republic of Paraguay during a ceremony in Asunción attended by dignitaries of the other two branches of Government.
