  Private economic studies published recently showed Paraguay was on an upward trajectory. According to Banco Itaú, the South American country's economic activity expanded in the second quarter of 2023 following the normalization of agricultural production after a severe drought last year.   Fuel shortages expected in Uruguay amid distribution conflict

  

  The guild grouping Uruguay's fuel distributors announced a 72-hour strike starting Monday which could lead to shortages in the South American country, it was reported in Montevideo. The measure was adopted after changes in the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC) regarding fuel distribution regulation costs affected the activity, it was explained.

  “Scholar” Milei praises Thatcher and loses presidential debate

  

  Libertarian Congressman Javier Milei somehow lost his temper during Sunday's debate with Economy Minister Sergio Massa, insisting that the latter should raise the level of his discourse.   Former VP Astori, architect of Uruguay's 21st century economy, dead at age 83

  

  Former Uruguayan Vice President Danilo Astori (2010-2015) died Friday at the age of 83 from complications following a hip fracture for which he had been hospitalized since late October, it was reported in Montevideo. Astori had resigned his seat on the Senate late last year due to other health problems.

  APEC: No major breakthrough expected from Biden-Xi meeting
