The British Embassy in Argentina has announced the 10 finalists from Argentina to the Falkland Islands Regional Student Competition 2024/2025. The applicants answered the question “Why would I like to meet my neighbors in the Falkland Islands?” in a video.

Argentine Navy pulls 1982 War sloop from auction for scraps

Argentina's Defense Ministry Wednesday announced it was pulling the the decommisioned sloop ARA Alférez Sobral from a list of old units to be auctioned for scraps, given the vessel's historic participation in the 1982 South Atlantic conflict over the Falkland Islands. The decision was adopted by Minister Luis Petri himself, it was explained through a statement. The ship is now expected to be turned into a museum.

Former Peruvian President Alberto Kenya Fujimori died Wednesday at her daughter Keiko's home in Lima at the age of 86 after a long battle against throat cancer. He had been released from jail when the Constitutional Court upheld a pardon granted to him by former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.

Chilean authorities Wednesday paid tribute to the victims of the dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet Ugarte which started on Sept. 11, 1973, after the military uprising resulted in the death of President Salvador Allende and the overthrowing of the democratically-elected government 51 years ago, when a regime that would last until 1990 seized power.
