    Venezuelan opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia Friday thanked the US Government of President Joseph Biden for recognizing him as president-elect despite the National Electoral Council (CNE) in Caracas granting victory to the incumbent Nicolás Maduro.

    Bank of England cuts basic rate to 5% in divided vote; monetary policy will continue restrictive

    Andrew Bailey, Chair of the Bank of England, admitted that the fall in interest rates was “not mission accomplished yet”.

    The Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee, MPC at its meeting ending on 31 July 2024, voted by a majority of 5–4 to reduce Bank Rate by 0.25 percentage points, to 5%. Four members preferred to maintain Bank Rate at 5.25%.

    US says González Urrutia won the Venezuelan elections

    The State Secretary recalled that the results announced by the opposition would corroborate the exit polls and the conclusions of independent observers

    US Secretary of State Antony Blinken admitted Thursday that opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia had won Sunday's elections in Venezuela despite the National Electoral Council (CNE) announcing that the incumbent Nicolás Maduro had prevailed with 51.2% of the vote to 44.2%.

    Maduro says maximum security prisons await protesters

    Maduro also joked that the incarcerated protesters should be put to work to “build more roads”

    Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced Thursday that two maximum security prisons were to be refurbished in haste to house and “reeducate” the political opponents of his regime who were arrested during the recent protests following his fudgy reelection last Sunday.

    Milei and Macri meet at Olivos presidential residence

    Macri said at a rally that he would still support Milei but PRO and LLA would not merge

    Argentine President Javier Milei welcomed former head of state Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) at the Olivos residence. The private encounter lasted about four hours. No information was released about the issues discussed but Spokesman Manuel Adorni said it was “a meeting of friends.” According to local media, it was a follow-up on the talks they held on July 8 and 9 in Tucumán during the signing of the so-called May Pact.

If defeated, Musk -whose company SpaceX has launched numerous satellites into orbit- also offered to give Maduro a free ride to Mars.

    Brazil representing Argentine interests in Caracas

    The fate of the six opposition asylum-seekers is yet to be known when the Argentine Embassy is vacated

    Brazil's diplomatic mission in Caracas will be representing Argentina's interests starting Thursday at 9 am local time after the Venezuelan regime of President Nicolás Maduro expelled Buenos Aires' delegation given President Javier Milei's decision not to recognize the results of the elections announced last Sunday whereby the incumbent head of state would have been chosen for the 2025-2031 term.

    OAS fails to pass resolution calling for transparency in Venezuela

    The Organization of American States (OAS) Permanent Council was one vote short Wednesday of passing a resolution to demand that Venezuelan electoral authorities publish the minutes of each voting table which would prove there was no fraud last Sunday when the incumbent Nicolás Maduro had been lawfully chosen for the 2025-2031 term.
