  Argentina calls on UK for talks on ‘global issue’ Malvinas and ‘demilitarization’ of South Atlantic

  

  President Cristina Fernández once again claimed Argentina’s sovereignty over the Falklands/Malvinas islands and urged the United Kingdom to accept talks and abide by the United Nations resolutions on the matter which has become a “global issue”. The Argentine leader also asked for the demilitarization of the South Atlantic.

  Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff who opened the UN round of General Assembly speeches, called on countries to boost international efforts to tackle the global economic crisis, stressing that a balance must be found to stimulate growth while at the same time controlling public spending without resorting to extreme austerity measures.

  Argentina UN Security Council non permanent member starting January 2013

  

  Argentina received support across Latin America and the Caribbean to become the non-permanent representative for the region at the UN Security Summit for the 2013-2014 period the Foreign Ministry informed on Tuesday.
