  WMO Bulletin shows 2024 recovery of ozone layer, on 40th anniversary of UN Vienna Convention

  

  The World Meteorological Organization Bulletin, WMO, reported that the low level of ozone depletion observed in 2024 was partly due to naturally occurring atmospheric factors, which drive year-to-year fluctuations. However, the long-term positive trend reflects the success of concerted international action.

  Talks on discovery in Antarctica of the ozone hole 40 years ago at Royal Geographic Society

  

  To commemorate the extraordinary moment the ozone hole was discovered in Antarctica 40 years ago, British Antarctic Survey (BAS) has teamed up with the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) in London to host a special series of talks on Tuesday, 6 May 2025.

  UK/Uruguay confirm Antarctic cooperation with Montevideo visit of two BAS research vessels

  

  Two British scientific research vessels coincided in Montevideo in early May at the end of the Antarctic season, in their way back to Southampton. Icebreaker RRS Shackleton and RRS James Clark Ross with sophisticated scientific research equipment and tens of experts in different disciplines spent months in Antarctica and returned to Montevideo, a traditional call port the British Antarctic Survey, BAS.

  Tierra del Fuego ozone alert with 'UV radiation reaching extreme risk or harm'

  

  Tierra del Fuego in south Argentina has sent out a warning to residents in the province that the ozone layer hole as it expands to the north, over the tip of South America continent this week, it will be reaching its maximum size with UV radiation at 12, violet or extreme alert. The information was provided by Argentina's VAG Ushuaia Station.

  Antarctic ozone hole reached annual peak 11 September and with the size of North America

  

  The Antarctic ozone hole reached its annual peak size on Sept. 11, according to scientists from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The size of this year’s hole was 24.1 million square kilometers, an area roughly the size of North America.
