    Blinken meets with Milei at Casa Rosada

    Milei invited Blinken and his entourage to the historic balconies of the Government Palace alongside other members of the local cabinet

    US Secretary of State Antony Blinken Friday conveyed to Argentine President Javier Milei the support of the Joseph Biden administration to the South American country's economic plan. Blinken described his meeting of nearly two hours as “incredibly positive” and highlighted Argentina's “extraordinary potential,” it was reported from Buenos Aires.

    Lithium provinces want a slice of huge revenues

    “There is an exorbitant increase in lithium prices at an international level,” Morales underlined

    Argentina's Lithium Round Table convened Tuesday in Buenos Aires to discuss a proposal whereby the country would promote adding value to the extracting activity. The meeting was chaired by Jujuy Governor and Presidential hopeful Gerardo Morales, who warned that the participating provinces were being cast aside from the activity's large revenues.

    Argentine mining exports hit highest level since 2012

    Lithium exports grew 220% interannually

    According to a report released this week by Argentina's Mining Secretariat, the South American country's sales abroad of these minerals totaled US$ 322 million in December of 2022, with 98% of shipments stemming from the provinces of Santa Cruz (44.6%), San Juan (22.4%), Jujuy (19.1%), Salta (7.7%) and Catamarca (4.0%).

    BMW signs deal to buy Argentine lithium

    German automaker BMW has signed a deal whereby Livent, a company that has invested US $ 640 million to extract lithium in the Argentine province of Catamarca, will become the brand's second-largest supplier of the mineral in 2022.

    Argentina and Chile forecasted to lead global lithium production

    BMI expect both Argentina and Chile to drive global lithium production, along with Australia, over the next decade

    A new report by BMI Research states that based on project pipelines, Chile and Argentina will lead lithium production in coming years, with the bulk of new capacity coming online in 2019.
