  Scientists have found evidence of ancient slope failures on the seafloor to the south of the Falkland Islands on the South Atlantic. Computer models suggest these underwater landslides would have been capable of sending waves crashing on to the Falklands' coastline that was tens of meters high.

  BBC announces drastic cut in news division staff and new “story led” model

  

  The BBC said on Wednesday it will cut around 450 jobs from its news division as part of an £80 million (US$103 million) savings drive and modernization program. The corporation said it would reorganize its newsroom along a “story-led” model where staff will be assigned to stories and not attached to individual programs.

  A dozen international media organizations have signed up to a new initiative launched by the BBC to fight misinformation. The French news agency AFP said in a statement it has joined the BBC initiative, alongside organizations such as the European Broadcasting Union, the Financial Times, First Draft, The Hindu, the Wall Street Journal, CBC/Radio Canada, Reuters and the Reuters Institute, as well as partners Facebook, Google and Microsoft.
