Uruguay celebrated Monday October 10 the bicentennial of its emancipation process with a great colourful, open party that attracted over 300.000 people to the streets and stages in the capital Montevideo.
Many of the celebrations planned for Chile’s bicentennial are meant to mimic the centennial celebrations, such as President Sebastián Pinera’s recreation of a dinner with foreign ambassadors in Chile.
“Let the Bicentennial festivities begin” Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced on Friday and Argentina put its best military and musical display on Saturday in the build-up toward Tuesday’s 200th anniversary of the country’s nationhood Tuesday May 25.
Argentina’s President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Venezuela’s leader Hugo Chávez said “the new world requires a new logic to accept a new order of relationships” during a meeting held at the presidential palace of Miraflores in Caracas.
Argentina’s president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner called on Monday for the end to the Falklands/Malvinas “colonial enclave”, as she forecasted from Venezuela, standing as a privileged guest next to Hugo Chavez, that Latinamerica is in the process of a “second independence”.
