The Falkland Islands Government with the UK Ministry of Defense is working on bookings and waiting lists for the airbridge, during the month of September and announced the following release, ”Our community will be aware of the current strain on Airbridge flights where all flights are fully booked, and nearly every flight waitlisted. The cancelled and returned flights in late August has added additional pressure on the availability of Airbridge seats.
The Royal Air Force has announced that with effect from 8 May 2023, the South Atlantic Airbridge (SAA), Brize Norton/MPC Falklands will revert to travelling to and from Brize Norton via Ascension Island Base (AIB) now that the reconstruction of the runway has been completed.
The cancellation of the Brize Norton/Falkland Islands airbridge service this week, the last before Christmas, triggered much frustration and complaints among Falkland Islanders, who will now have to wait for the flight departing on December 27.
A Royal Air Force Atlas C1 transport aircraft has been refueled over the South Atlantic for the first time. The Atlas was flown from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire to Ascension Island before flying on to the Falklands.
Extreme temperatures have forced Britain's biggest air base to halt all of its flights in and out. Aircraft to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, have been forced to divert to other airfields. Brize Norton is also the UK air-bridge head link with MPC in the Falkland Islands.
The Falkland Islands Government has informed that FIGO, (the government's office in London) will be asking southbound passengers for their onward travel arrangements from MPC to Stanley, when booking a flight. The requirement applies to arriving passengers from 15 February 2021 onwards.
