  Rotating supply cuts launched as Bogotá's water reservoirs are running dry

  

  Authorities in the capital of Colombia began rationing water on Thursday as local reservoirs were reported to be nearing alarming levels due to the El Niño phenomenon coupled with the aftermaths of global warming. It has not been ruled out that the severe drought might result as well in an energy crisis hitting some 10 million people who live in Bogotá and the surrounding areas.

  Climate change: March this year was the hottest ever recorded

  

  According to a study released Wednesday by the European Climate Observatory, last month was the hottest March on record worldwide, as well as the tenth consecutive month with maximum temperatures recorded at sea since June 2023. March 2024 recorded an average of 14.14 degrees Celsius (57.9 degrees Fahrenheit), beating the previous record of 2016 by a tenth of a degree.

  Weather conditions improving for Panama Canal transit but still far from good

  

  Recent rains have led the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) to announce an increase in the number of vessels through the interoceanic path from 24 to 27 each day, it was reported. Being the only waterway in the world that uses fresh water to link the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, the 80-kilometer Panamanian route carries 6% of the world's maritime trade.

  Ice Patrol HMS Protector is helping to study the impact of tourism on Antarctica

  

  The Royal Navy Ice Patrol HMS Protector took scientists on an Antarctic research cruise to analyze the increasing impact of tourism and climate change on the frozen continent, a challenge which has been underlined by IAATO, the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators. IAATO has pointed out that during the 2022/23 season more than 104,000 visitors traveled to Antarctica.

  No price tag should be placed on nature's services to mankind, Brazilian minister tells WEF

  Attendees at the closing plenary session of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) reached a final consensus to speed up climate action, it was announced. “It is a strengthened and balanced package,” COP28 President Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber explained. The document also mentioned the gradual suppression of fossil fuels.
