  Orsi evaluating candidates for Buenos Aires Embassy

  

  Uruguay's future government to be inaugurated on March 1 is evaluating candidates for the Embassy in Buenos Aires. According to local media, former Assistant Presidential Secretary Diego Cánepa seems to be the leading candidate to fill the vacancy left by Carlos Enciso, who resigned to focus on his possible candidacy for the Florida City Council. Foreign Minister Omar Paganini confirmed the position would remain unfilled until the change of government.

  Uruguayan authorities have revealed how marijuana will be produced and sold legally in the country following the approval of the bill last December. Licensed pharmacies will sell the drug for approximately one US dollar a gram with consumers allowed 40g a month.

  Uruguay extended for another twelve months the VAT bonus for those tourists who pay for purchases, lodging and rents with debit cards.   Uruguay says it accepted Venezuela in Mercosur as part of a major negotiation

  

  The Uruguayan government said that it accepted the incorporation of Venezuela as full member of Mercosur as part of a “negotiation” in which it demanded no economic sanctions on Paraguay and that is why “the last word has not been said” on the issue.
