  Fitch Ratings has LATAM sovereigns on the watch list

  

  One in four Fitch-rated corporates in Latin America is exposed to either a one-notch sovereign or country ceiling downgrade, while ratings for nearly one-third of issuers are vulnerable to a two-notch downgrade, according to the latest from Fitch Ratings.

  YPF profits up, but no new joint-ventures in sight to develop Patagonia shale

  

  Argentina's state-managed energy firm YPF posted a second quarter net income of 2.297 billion pesos ($252.8 million) on Wednesday, a 50.5% increase on the same period last year. YPF earnings have been cushioned from the collapse of international oil prices by a government-controlled price for oil produced in the country, which sits at about $78 dollars per barrel.

  Brazil’s power companies report huge losses in 2012 forced by cheaper electricity bills

  

  Latinamerica’s largest power company Eletrobras, managed by the Brazilian government reported losses equivalent to 3.4bn dollars last year which were mostly attributed to a bill promoted by the administration of President Dilma Rousseff ro reduce electricity bills both for industry, agriculture and home consumption.

  Petrobras posts loss in second quarter; blames depreciation of the Real

  

  Brazil state-controlled oil company Petrobras reported a net loss of 1.35 billion Reais (some 633 million dollars at the current exchange rate) in the second quarter, attributing the result to the depreciation of the Real relative to the dollar.
