    Falklands agrees to education facilities for secondary age children from MPC

    Falkland Islands Community School holds the main secondary school and boarding facilities

    Falkland Islands Executive Council (ExCo) has agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) be signed between the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) and the UK Ministry of Defense (MOD) that will allow secondary-age children from Mount Pleasant Complex (MPC) to board at Stanley House and study at the Falkland Islands Community School (FICS) from the start of the 2025 academic year.

    Falklands, consultation on overseas driving licenses concludes next Friday

    Contrary to most of the world, and as in the UK driving in the Falklands is on the left hand

    The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) is undertaking a consultation in relation to the use of overseas driving licenses. The purpose of the consultation is to help identify whether there are public safety concerns around the use of overseas driving licenses and whether the current law needs to be changed.

    Falkland Islands Liberation Day Anniversary from Argentine Occupation, on 14 June

    At 11:00 am a parade and ceremony will be held at the Liberation Monument, in front of the Secretariat building. After prayers the Governor will lay a wreath

    Falklands Government Budget announcement delayed until July

    The Falkland Islands Government has postponed the announcement of its 2025/26 budget, which was initially scheduled for June 3. According to a statement from the Legislative Assembly, the delay comes after members of the Budget Select Committee expressed dissatisfaction with the final draft presented, leading to a decision to take additional time for consensus-building.

    Falklands, new Banking Services Expanded to the Falkland Islands by Lloyds Bank

    It is anticipated that the account opening process will take between 15 to 20 days

    New personal banking opportunities with a major UK bank are now available for Falkland Islands residents. As part of their Overseas Territories strategy, Lloyds Bank has announced that the Falkland Islands have been added to the list of countries where individuals are able to apply for one of their International Current Accounts and/or Savings Accounts.

    Falklands, the VSAT Public Consultation Period Extended by a month

    FIG has agreed to a request for an extension to the current public consultation to ensure that the consultation process is as complete and inclusive as possible.

    The Falkland Islands Government has announced that the public consultation period on the proposed changes to the policy that guides the issuing of VSAT licenses and the associated fee level has been extended by a month.

    Falkland Islands, Dr Andrea Clausen begins work as FIG Chief Executive

     Dr Andrea Clausen last job was FIG Director of Natural Resources, responsible for Fisheries, Agriculture, Veterinary, Biosecurity, Maritime, and potential new area in Aquaculture.

    Dr Andrea Clausen officially begins her work today (1 April 2025) as the Falkland Islands Government’s (FIG) Chief Executive. She was appointed in October 2024 to be the next Chief Executive and is both the first female and the first Falkland Islander to take on the role. Previous to her new role, Andrea served as the FIG Director of Natural Resources following her previous experience in the private sector and as an Elected Member.
