  Falklands' sheep paddocks with fence posts from North Wales

  

  Fence posts made from North Wales timber are keeping sheep safe thousands of miles away in the Falkland Islands. Every year a consignment of 4,000 fence posts weighing 20 tons is trucked from Ruthin to Portsmouth on the first stage of an 8,000-mile journey to the South Atlantic, reports the Daily Post from North Wales.

  Falklands circumnavigation planned by Royal Marine veterans for PTSD awareness

  

  Two Brighton based former Royal Marines will, on January 29th, officially launch their bid to kayak the 650 miles of unforgiving coastline of the Falkland Islands. Mick Dawson and Steve Grenham will undertake the circumnavigation in spring 2016, a challenge which is set to take about 30 days.

  Falkland Islands unveils bronze to 'hero forever' Baroness Thatcher

  

  Describing Baroness Margaret Thatcher as a “hero forever” the Falkland Islands unveiled on Saturday a bust of the former British Prime Minister whose determination was decisive in recovering the Islands from invading and occupying Argentine forces in 1982, helping to propel the Islands to what they are now. Sir Mark Thatcher, son of the late PM was especially invited to the ceremony.

  Falklands football team with be at the Island Games in Jersey

  

  There will be 16 men's teams and 11 women's teams in this summer's Island Games football tournament, including from the Falkland Islands. Only four men's teams and three women's teams went to the last Games in Bermuda because of costs, with the hosts winning both gold medals.

  Falklands' waters chosen to experiment Taiwanese high-tech jigger

  

  An energy-efficient squid fishing-vessel sponsored by Taiwan's Council of Agriculture (COA) is heading to the southwestern Atlantic Ocean, north of the Falkland Islands, on its maiden voyage, to begin a six-month testing phase and examine the efficacy of its arrays of light emitting diodes (LED) for catching squid.
