  Falklands: international observers praise electoral process and civil liberties

  

  For the first time, an international team of observers was present in the Falkland Islands during—and prior to—the general election held on December 11, to monitor the entire electoral process. The delegation consisted of seven members from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association of the British Islands and Mediterranean Region (CPA-BIMR), including parliamentarians, electoral analysts and staff from the CPA UK branch.

  Falklands Election: Renewed Legislative; oath ceremony at Government House

  

  As anticipated, close to 11:00pm Thursday 11 December, the results of the Falkland Islands general election were announced by the Returning Officer Dr. Andrea Clausen, and the integration of the new Legislative Assembly for the next four years was confirmed.

  Falklands, Electoral Ordinance canvass, preparing for November election

  

  The Falkland Islands’ Registration Officer is required to carry out a yearly canvass for the purpose of updating the Register of Electors. On Monday 17 March 2025, all households should have received a form V “Request for information from householders” in the post.

  The Falkland Islands are holding a by-election on Thursday 20 September to fill the seat left vacant by veteran Member of the Legislative Assembly, Ian Hansen. Two candidates aspire to join the eight-member elected Legislative Assembly, as the third representative of the Camp jurisdiction, Jack Ford and Gary Webb.

  Falklands election: manifestos of the four Camp candidates

  

  The Falkland Islands are scheduled for next Thursday 4 November and four are the candidates for the three benches that represent the Camp constituency at the Legislative Assembly. Candidates are Ana Crowie running for the first time, John Birmingham who is a former lawmaker of the Legislative Council, before it became the Legislative Assembly, plus Ian Hansen and Teslyn Barkman, both running for reelection.
