Members of the United States Congress are visiting Gibraltar to ‘show support’ for the Rock as they reflected on the close links between Gibraltar and the US. Acting Gibraltar Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia welcomed a delegation from the Congress of the United States to Gibraltar on Monday afternoon before taking them through a series of meetings throughout the course of yesterday.
A visiting delegation from the Congress of the United States has praised Gibraltar's economy and spoken of why they co-sponsored a bill supporting Gibraltar’s right to self-determination in the House of Representatives.
Spain tried to persuade US politicians to drop an initiative calling for the House of Representatives in Washington to formally recognize Gibraltar’s right to self-determination. The plea was contained in a letter from Spain’s ambassador to Washington, Ramon Gil-Casares, to Republican Congressman George Holding, who sponsored the bi-partisan resolution.
