The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (EOM/OAS) in Haiti welcomed the announcement of the final results of the presidential election held on November 20, 2016.
The Organization of American States (OAS) supports holding the first round of presidential elections in Haiti on the scheduled date of October 25, and for that reason, the Director of the Department for Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO), Gerardo de Icaza, on Monday travelled to the Caribbean country.
Despite incidents of violence at some polling stations, the first round of legislative elections in Haiti which took place on Sunday, has been described as “a step forward for Haitian democracy” by the Organization of American States (OAS).
Haiti’s Prime Minister Laurent Lamonthe has pledged that his government will provide the necessary means to the electoral council to facilitate the holding of legislative and local elections this year.
